The kiosk is the shared tablet at work. If your manager sends you a kiosk link, you can also clock in on your own phone.
Before you start
Your manager gives you your PIN, usually on a printed slip. Keep it to yourself: anyone who types it clocks in as you.
Type your PIN
On the kiosk, type your four digits. There's no Enter key: the kiosk moves on after the fourth digit. To start again, press Clear.
Your name appears, with "Not clocked in" or the time you clocked in, and your hours for today and this week. If it's someone else's name, press Not you? Cancel.
Press a button
After your PIN, the kiosk shows what you can do now. The blue button at the top is the usual next step:
- When you arrive: Clock in.
- At work: Clock out when you leave, or Start break below it for a break.
- On a break: End break when you're back, or Clock out below it if you're leaving.
Breaks aren't paid.
Check the confirmation
The screen confirms what you did ("Clocked in", "Break started", "Back from break" or "Clocked out"), with the time and your name. After you clock out, it also shows "This shift": the hours you worked.
Press Done, or walk away. The kiosk goes back to the PIN pad by itself.
If you see a message
- "PIN not recognised. 4 tries left." Check your slip and type your PIN again.
- "Too many wrong PINs. Try again at 9:15 AM." Wait until that time.
- "You're not set up for this kiosk. Ask your manager." Ask your manager which kiosk to use.
- "A shift in the last week wasn't clocked out. Tell your manager so you're paid for it." Tell your manager what time you left that day.
- "Connection is slow. Still trying…" Wait a moment.
- "No connection. Check the internet and try again." Try again when the internet is back.
- "1 punch waiting for the connection", at the top of the screen. The kiosk has kept what you pressed, with the time you pressed it, and sends it when the connection is back. Leave the kiosk open.
Use the kiosk on your own phone
Your manager may send you a kiosk link, to use the kiosk on your own phone or computer.
- Open the link. The kiosk opens.
- Type your PIN and use it the same way.
To open the kiosk like an app, add it to your home screen:
- On an iPhone, open the link in Safari, press Share, then Add to Home Screen. The first time you open it from there, paste the link your manager sent into Kiosk link and press Open.
- On Android, use Add to Home screen (or Install app) in the browser's menu.
Once the kiosk is open on your phone, it keeps working, even if your manager turns that link off later. If you open a link that's been turned off on a new phone, you'll see "This kiosk link has been turned off. Ask your manager for the new one."
If a manager clocks you in
Some workplaces use a Manager list kiosk instead. It shows "Manager PIN to unlock", and you don't need a PIN of your own:
- A manager types their PIN, and the list of names opens.
- They tap your name and press Clock in, Start break, End break or Clock out for you.
- They press Lock when they're done.
If your workplace lets staff use their own PIN while it's locked, you can still type yours.
Good to know
- Forgot your PIN? Ask your manager for a new one.
- If you're a shift lead marked as a kiosk manager, your PIN also shows Open the team list. There you can tap a person and clock them in or out. On a Manager list kiosk your PIN unlocks the list.
What's next
Your manager checks your shifts before payday.
